ArmInfo. The Serbian Parliament rejected the proposal of the opposition to recognize the Armenian Genocide.
According to the Balkan service of Radio Free Europe / Radio Liberty (RFE / RL), the resolution recognizing the genocide of 1.5 million Armenians in Ottoman Turkey was presented to the parliament by former Serbian Prime Minister Zoran Zivkovic, who currently heads the political force "New Party ".
Zivkovic stressed the importance of clarifying the position of official Belgrade in this matter, recalling that this greatest tragedy of the 20th century was recognized by both Russia and the majority of US states.
It is noteworthy that over the past decade such proposals have been presented several times in the Serbian parliament, but they have always been rejected. But this did not stop Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic from taking part in the events dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide in Yerevan on April 24, 2015.
