ArmInfo.Moscow stands for the normalization of the Armenian- Turkish relations. This was announced at the briefing on March 7 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova, referring to the denunciation of the Armenian-Turkish protocols on normalization of relations by Armenia.
"Russia made a direct assessment of this treaty, as you remember, the Russian delegation was in Zurich and took an active part in these assessments, and our attitude remains relevant, we proceed from the importance of normalizing relations between these countries, in their own interests. As you know, Russia has always done its best to achieve this goal, I say once again that Russia then in Zurich took an active and, most interesting, effective participation in the development of appropriate agreements. the topic was commented on, and these assessments are relevant, "Zakharova said. Recall that on March 1, 2018, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan at a meeting of the Security Council announced the withdrawal of the Armenian-Turkish protocols. Armenian-Turkish protocols were signed in Zurich on October 10, 2009. However, the protocols were never ratified by the parliaments of Armenia and Turkey, since Ankara constantly put forward preconditions for ratification. In this connection, the process of ratification of the protocols in the Armenian parliament was frozen by order of the President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan. And in February 2015 they were withdrawn from parliament. In the second half of 2017, the President of Armenia from the rostrum of the UN General Assembly declared that Armenia will meet the spring of 2018 without the Armenian-Turkish protocols, since there is no positive progress in their implementation.
