ArmInfo. The head of the Yelk faction Nikol Pashinyan appealed to the Chief of Police Vladimir Gasparyan with a request to present a document on the refusal of the 4th President of Armenia Armen Sargsyan from the citizenship of Great Britain in 2011, as Sarkisyan himself repeatedly stated.
During the pre-election speeches Armen Sargsyan claimed that he renounced the citizenship of Great Britain in 2011, therefore, he does not violate the constitutional requirement for compulsory residence in the territory of Armenia for the last 6 years prior to the elections and the citizenship of the RA during the same time. However, when representatives of the "Elk" bloc in the parliament asked Sargsyan to present the corresponding document, he did not do it. The oppositionists were provided with only a certificate from the RA Police that Sargsyan is a citizen of the Republic of Armenia. This fact raised doubts not only among the deputies of the Yelk bloc, but also representatives of 10 public organizations that questioned the legitimacy of Sargsyan as the president of Armenia.
Sargsyan was elected the 4th president of Armenia by 90 votes of the Republican Party, ARF Dashnaktsutyun and Tsaroukyan.
