On February 28 Gagik Harutyunyan was elected a member of the Supreme Judicial Council by the decision of the National Assembly of Armenia. 96 deputies voted for. According to the new Constitution, the Supreme Judicial Council, which is due on April 9, is called upon to guarantee the independence of the judiciary. The Supreme Judicial Council consists of ten members. Five members elect the National Assembly by at least three-fifths of the total number of deputies among the authoritative lawyers who are citizens of the Republic of Armenia only. The five members of the Supreme Judicial Council elect a General Meeting of Judges from among judges with at least ten years of experience as a judge. In addition to Harutyunyan, Gevorg Danielyan, Liparit Melikjanyan, Hayk Hovhannisyan and Sergey Meghryan were elected to the Supreme Judicial Council by the National Assembly.
