ArmInfo. Candidate for presidency from the Republican Party Armen Sargsyan today, speaking at the National Assembly, avoided answering the question of the head of the Yelk bloc faction Nikol Pashinyan about how he relates to Serzh Sargsyan's statement about refusing to apply for the post of prime minister of the country and to the fact that , despite this, the RPA intends to nominate him for this post.
"I think it's better for you to ask this question to Serzh Sargsyan himself, I cannot comment on the statements of other politicians," he assured. Sargsyan also avoided answering another question from Pashinyan about why he does not submit a copy of the statement to the British authorities about the renunciation of the citizenship of the United Kingdom. The candidate only reassured that since 2011 he refused from the citizenship of Great Britain.
To the question why, in the documents of the Eurasia House Foundation from 2014, he is listed as a British citizen and under his signature, Sargsyan replied that these documents were of a formal nature and, when signing them, he did not look at what was written about the his citizenship. This caused Pashinyan's indignation, who remarked: "How can a person pretending to be president of the country sign documents without getting acquainted with their essence. It turns out that after you are elected to the presidency you will sign the most important documents without reading them?" asked the deputy.
Answering the question about the presence of political prisoners in Armenia, Sargsyan said that he does not know whether there are any political prisoners in Armenia. "I asked the authorized structures to provide me with the relevant information until I received any documents, but I can say one thing, there should not be political prisoners in Armenia," Sargsyan said.
Asked whether he would feel morally obligated after the election of the Republican Party nominated by him, Sargsyan gave a negative answer: "I will be the president of all citizens of Armenia, not just Republicans."
Speaking about the issues he will focus on in the event of his election as president, Sargsyan said: "Armenia has a corruption background, which leads citizens to indifference, apathy and migration." The fight against this evil should be conducted in an institutional way - from top to bottom ".
He also assured that he will pay much attention to environmental issues. "No sphere of the economy, including the mining industry, should develop at the expense of the environment." Today, solving the immediate economic problems, we can lose the most valuable resource - nature and water, "the candidate said.
As achievements of the Armenian policy, he called membership in the Eurasian Economic Union and signing an agreement on an expanded and comprehensive partnership with the European Union. "Armenia is a small country with a small market, and outside of integration projects it will not be of interest to investors," the candidate concluded.
