ArmInfo. In Armenia there are 1.1 pensioners per working citizen. "This is a very bad indicator," Deputy Labor and Social Affairs Minister Smbat Saiyan said at a news conference on February 20.
As of January 1 2018, there are 455,609 pensioners in Armenia, compared to 462,754 last year. The reduction of the number of pensioners, as Saiyan pointed out, is also due to reforms in the sphere of recognition of disability - depriving a person of disability, the person is also deprived of disability pension (from 127,932 to 116,787 citizens).
Nevertheless, in the near future there will be more pensioners, as the deputy minister noted, the demographic development is hampered by the pension system. "The state register of the country's population shows that the generation born in 1955 will receive the right to receive a pension in 2018, which is 43,000 people, while the number of citizens born in 1960 is 60,000, which means an increase in the number of pensioners in Armenia in 1.5 times," said Saiyan. Already today, their growth has been registered since last year's 307,068 to 312,798 people.
Within the next 5 years the number of pensioners in Armenia will grow by about 10%.
