ArmInfo. Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian met with Foreign Minister Taro Kono on February 17 at the margins of the Munich Security Conference.
According to the press service of the Foreign Ministry, Nalbandian noted that the last week in Armenia was saturated with the Japanese agenda, an agreement on the promotion and protection of investments was signed, and the Deputy Foreign Minister of Japan was in Yerevan. Edward Nalbandian noted that it is very symbolic that the "Japanese Week" ends with a meeting of the foreign ministers of the two countries.
The Armenian and Japanese Foreign Ministers touched upon joint steps aimed at expanding and deepening bilateral relations. In this regard, Edward Nalbandian and Taro Kono stressed the need for frequent bilateral contacts and mutual visits. The interlocutors stressed the importance of holding periodic consultations between the foreign ministries, and effective cooperation, within the framework of international organizations.
The ministers agreed that the agreement on liberalization, promotion and protection of investments between the Governments of Armenia and Japan opens new opportunities for expanding trade and economic ties. During the meeting, the foreign ministers of Armenia and Japan focused on a number of regional and international issues.
Taro Kono told Edward Nalbandian about Japan's approaches to the events on the Korean peninsula. Minister Nalbandian briefed the Japanese Foreign Minister on the joint efforts of Armenia and the OSCE Minsk Group co-chair countries on an exclusively peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
