ArmInfo. The initiative to hold an extraordinary presidential election in Azerbaijan this April is another demonstration of voluntarism on the part of Aliyev.
This opinion was expressed in a conversation with the correspondent of ArmInfo by the press secretary of the head of Artsakh David Babayan. According to him, in neighboring Azerbaijan, there are quite interesting processes demonstrating a number of shortcomings to the state system of this country. "We once again see that everything in this country is in the hands of one person - Aliyev, he alone takes all decisions." The arguments of the Azerbaijani authorities are also amusing that this is due to the fact that in the country since May this year, dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the creation of the Azerbaijani statehood, which will last the whole year, therefore, it was decided to postpone the election date from autumn to spring, "Babayan said. At that, NKR press secretary supposes that one of the reasons for the postponement of the early elections is the international pressure on Baku regarding human rights. Babayan believes that Aliyev will be forced to cede pressure and announce an amnesty, which will lead to the release of a number of opposition figures who will start to stir the people. And this, according to Babayan, will create a number of problems for Aliyev in the elections.
The representative of the head of the NKR also does not agree with the expert opinions that the transfer of the election date is conditioned by Baku's intention to again sabotage the situation on the front line. According to him, the electoral processes in Azerbaijan are in no way connected with the situation in the conflict zone, however, the Armenian side should always be on the alert, as the enemy is not predictable, and his actions sometimes do not give in to logic. Referring to the fact that the Azerbaijani opposition intends to boycott the upcoming presidential elections in the country, Babayan stated that Azerbaijan has long since become an emirate. "The non-participation of the opposition in the elections is unacceptable and to some extent even delegitimizes the electoral process, but it does not matter for the emirate." Moreover, this year Azerbaijan celebrates the 100th anniversary of the formation of statehood, 50 of which are in power the Aliyev clan, which once again shows that this country has long become an emirate, and elections in this country will not have any significance for the people of the country, "Babayan said. On February 5, the President of Azerbaijan signed an order to hold early presidential elections in the country. They are scheduled for April 11, 2018. The Central Election Commission of Azerbaijan was instructed to ensure the holding of presidential elections in accordance with the Electoral Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The Azerbaijani opposition has already issued a statement that it boycotts early presidential elections in the country.
