ArmInfo. The government of Armenia discussed the possibility of reducing congestion, efficient organization and unloading of traffic in Yerevan.
The Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technologies Vahan Martirosyan presented the results of the study carried out on the basis of the Prime Minister's instruction and proposals developed jointly with the interested agencies that concern the increase of the capacity of the Yerevan road network, the restriction of parking spaces in some areas, the organization of traffic and tightening of control, introduction of modern technologies, as well as the organization of alternative routes. As reported by the press service of the Armenian government, referring to the ongoing work, Deputy Chief of the RA Police under the Government of the RA Samvel Hovhannisyan reported that the RA road police continues to make changes in the organization of the traffic at the crossroads of Yerevan, at some crossroads the traffic has become circular and these events continue: with the purpose of preventing accumulations of vehicles and delays, fast unloading of intersections, double solid lines have been moved, the modes of operation of traffic lights with the right section have been changed, etc. The process of transition to automatic control of intersections continues: 50 intersections are controlled by an electronic system, another 60 intersections are planned. Mayor of Yerevan Taron Margaryan noted that it is quite efficient to create pedestrian crossings by installing flashing traffic lights, and the installation of such traffic lights in 110 points in Yerevan will also contribute to the solution of the problem of regulation of traffic flows.
The Prime Minister invited the mayor of Yerevan to continue work in this direction. The head of the government instructed the officials to consider short-term solutions and work together to increase the number of traffic lights that regulate the intersection of streets, tighten control over parking on the second lane of the carriageway of adjacent sections of roads, limit parking hours, efficient distribution of interstate and interregional departure points in Yerevan and other directions.
