Armenian President convened Security Council meeting

President of Armenia, Chairman of the National Security Council Serzh Sargsyan convened a meeting of the Security Council, where the draft program on the modernization of the armed forces of the Republic of Armenia for 2018-2024 was discussedand the legal process of ensuring constitutional reforms.

According to the press service of Armenian head of state, Sargsyan presented his assessments and approaches regarding the Armenian Defense Ministry's draft program for the modernization of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia. The head of the Armenian state reminded the members of the Security Council that on October 24 of last year he instructed the Defense Minister to work out a program for long- term development of the Armenian Armed Forces. "This assignment is conditioned by the following circumstance: new challenges are emerging in the region, and the best way to respond to them is to develop a long-term development program." The society raised questions why, until now, the Ministry of Defense or the Armenian Armed Forces did not have a development program, a long-term program? There have always been programs, but the difference between the former and this is that the previous ones were mostly short-term programs, and those that were considered long-term were more like desires, ideas, vector. The program is well developed, set goals, there are indicators, and most importantly, there are financial calculations. does not mean that today we can not make changes to this program - we can, which is why it is submitted for approval to the Security Council, then we will give a move, "the Armenian President said. After the speech of the Armenian President, the Minister of Defense Vigen Sargsyan reported on the first issue. As a result of discussions, the Security Council approved the presented approaches and instructed the Government to process them and submit them for approval to the president. The second issue of the agenda was reported by the Minister of Justice David Harutyunyan. According to the minister, five of the seven constitutional laws envisaged by this process have been fully adopted, one was adopted in the National Assembly on first reading, another one will be discussed at the forthcoming four-day meeting in February. Harutyunyan also reported that 27 packages of laws have been adopted within the same process. The meeting approved the results of the legal process for ensuring constitutional reforms and was entrusted to the Government to continue their implementation and ensure the logical conclusion of the procedure.
