Minister of Emergency Situations of Armenia David Tonoyan on January 31 received the delegation of the European Union, led by the deputy head of the Eastern Partnership in the European External Affairs Service, Dirk Lorenz. According to the press service of MES, the delegation is in Armenia in the framework of the 5th meeting of the EU-Armenia subcommittee on energy, transport, ecology and civil defense.
During the meeting, the possibility of initiating and expanding cooperation between the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Armenia and relevant EU infrastructures in the field of protection and preparedness of the population within the framework of the Armenia-EU comprehensive and expanded partnership agreement signed on November 24, 2017 was discussed. In particular, the formats of cooperation, exchange of experience and development of the institutional capacities of the emergency aid system through training and legislative reforms were discussed. EU side confirmed that Armenia can submit its priorities in the sphere of population protection in European forum on population protection, planned on March of the current year. In his speech, Minister Tonoyan stressed that priorities of the Ministry for Emergency Situations in the field of population protection and reduction of the level of danger from natural disasters are clearly indicated, and it is expected that the EU will assist Armenia in implementing these programs, as well as in providing technical security.
