ArmInfo. After Vladimir Putin's re-election to the post of Russian president, his policy in Transcaucasia will not change, Alexei Venediktov, the editor-in-chief of Ekho Moskvy said.
"In my opinion, there will not be any news in Putin's policy for the Caucasus and Transcaucasia, for Putin it's the sphere of Russia's interests, primarily Armenia, where the Russian military base is located." Azerbaijan is a more complicated story related to gas and economic interests and the fact that a huge number of Azerbaijanis work in Russia, "said Alexei Venediktov in an interview with the Voice of America Armenian Service.
At the same time, he believes that Putin will not change his concept on the Karabakh conflict. Venediktov expressed his conviction that, in this sense, Russia will remain the moderator of the Karabakh process and will do everything possible to ensure that the region is calm for the embodiment of its political and economic interests. "This is the concept of Putin, which will not change after the elections," he summed up.
Note that the election of the Russian president is scheduled for March 18. As of mid-January, 17 candidates, including two self-nominees and 15 party candidates, are taking part in the election campaign for the post of head of state.
