On November 16, the Armenian government approved a package of laws on the prevention of family violence. After heated discussions, the authors of the bill, in order to show their pacifist intentions, enriched its title "On the prevention of family violence and protection of persons subjected to domestic violence and the restoration of consent in the family." As the Minister of Justice of Armenia David Aryutyan explained, the law has two goals: first, to prevent, and secondly, to protect. During the discussions, the third goal was identified - the restoration of consent, which was reflected in the title of the bill. The package provides for 3 basic mechanisms for the protection of persons affected by domestic violence - prevention, urgent intervention and decision on protection. The decision on the application of the second mechanism is made by the relevant specialist of the Police, and the decision on protection by the court.
