ArmInfo. On January 18 the first meeting of the Expert Working Group on the Reform of Yerevan Public Transport took place, at which the project of the new transport network of the capital was presented.
The head of the working group, deputy mayor of Yerevan Vahe Nikoyan presented the project, developed by the consultant WYG, which will be investigated by the members of the working group. So, the project proposes to reduce the number of existing vehicles and lines by about three times. In accordance with this, instead of the current 115 routes, 42 routes will operate, and instead of 2,039 vehicles - 939. According to the logic of the new network, vehicles will operate on a complementary basis. "The project will eliminate duplicate routes, while the vehicles will be equally accessible in all parts of the capital, ensuring safe, reliable and proper passenger service."
The merit of the consulting organization is that very careful work was done in the development of the new network, which the number of existing vehicles and lines that were previously formed as a result of situational decisions and did not have a logical connection, was cut threefold today's routes were not the basis for developing a new network, "said Nikoyan. According to the project, a new network of routes is intended for buses, trolleybuses and an integrated metro system, it excludes minibuses. In addition, a number of standards were adopted with regard to the carrying capacity and technical capabilities of roads and stops, the volume of passenger traffic, the frequency of arrival of vehicles, etc.
