Serzh Tankian: My entire career I spoke about the need to know about  the Armenian Genocide

American musician of Armenian origin, singer of the System of a Down band Serge Tankian stated in an interview to Rolling Stone. SOAD vocalist  spoke about working on music for the films "Promise" and "Intention  to Destroy", dedicated to the Armenian Genocide.

According to him, "Intention to destroy" is an incredible documentary  about the denial of the Genocide.  "My grandfather and grandmother  survived the Genocide, and all my career I talked about the need to  know about the Armenian Genocide and its connection with the present  day. It was difficult to create music for the film, I put a lot of  emotions into this matter, and Joe (Joe Berlinger - film director -  ed.) was very glad that I managed to convey everything that happened  in the film through the music, Joe is a master of the documentary, he  always includes opposite opinions, he included the denial of the  Genocide in the film, it is terrible, and I told Joe, I'm sick of  these scenes it was not easy," Tankian said.

Joe Berliner's documentary about the Armenian Genocide "Intention to  Destroy" was the winner at the film festival in Los Angeles in the  category "Best Documentary." It tells about the events that took  place in the Ottoman Empire a century ago, about the victims of the  Armenian Genocide and their descendants, who are still fighting for  the recognition of the crime committed against Armenians.

The System of A Down frontman also talked about the movie "Promise"  and how he approached Chris Cornell, the author of the main  soundtrack to the film. The musician noted that he gave him advice  that helps to better understand the topic of the Genocide.

The "Promise" is an American drama film based on the events of the  Armenian Genocide and the last years of the Ottoman Empire, directed  by Terry George and with Oscar Isaac, Christian Bale, Charlotte Le  Bon.  The film became a box office failure, collecting only $ 10  million with a budget of $ 90 million.  Nevertheless, the studio  noted that the main goal of the film is to draw attention to history,  and not earn money.

The guitarist, composer and vocalist, frontman of the popular  Soundgarden group Chris Cornell is nominated posthumously for a  Grammy for the soundtrack to The Promise about the Armenian Genocide.   The soundtrack for the film is presented in the nomination for the  best rock performance.
