ArmInfo. Armenia and Russia are moving to a new stage in the development of bilateral relations based on centuries of history and friendship. This was announced on December 19 in Yerevan by the results of the year, Russian Ambassador to Armenia Ivan Volynkin.
According to him, now the relations between the two states are brought to the level of allied, and no adversity can shake them. The Ambassador noted that the Armenian-Russian relations, based on a solid legal framework, are highly dynamic. Volynkin informed that over the past 10 years, more than 100 meetings between the heads of state of the two countries have been held, mutual visits are constantly carried out at all levels, the interparliamentary commission, the intergovernmental commission for economic cooperation, the intergovernmental commission for military-technical cooperation are actively working.
At the same time, he added that Armenia and Russia continued to be active participants of the Eurasian integration processes, both states made a significant contribution to CSTO activities. "I would also like to note the active financial support of Russia for the UN in Armenia, unfortunately, little is said about this, but the Russian Federation decided that a part of the contributions of the Russian Federation that go to the budget of various UN structures was aimed at developing the economy and the social sphere of Armenia, in particular, they are programs of integrated support to the development of rural regions and the enhancement of community resilience, strengthening the capacity to combat forest fires in the Republic of Armenia, the development of integrated rural tourism and UNIDO. "A week ago, the Ministry of Agriculture launched the launch of a new UN project" Building Capacity to Strengthen Food Security and Nutrition in a number of Caucasus and Central Asian countries, "to which Russia will contribute $ 6 million," the Russian Ambassador said. At the same time, he stressed that all the above programs are successfully developing in Armenia, especially the children's nutrition program in schools, implemented for several years. Volynkin stressed that at the initiative of Russia this program will be continued.
The Russian diplomat also noted that the International AIDS Day is celebrated on December 1. "With Russian funding, two mobile laboratories have been delivered to Armenia, which run all over the country and conduct rapid tests and various medical examinations.This program is very successful and popular in Armenia, and people are willing to use these opportunities on the ground," the diplomat said.
Speaking about the foreign policy sphere, Volynkin noted that the year brought great joy, from the fact that the efforts of the Russian military space forces and with their support managed to actually complete the operation in Syria, to bring greater stability to this region. "We cooperated closely with Armenia in this regard, humanitarian aid from Armenia to Syria was sent by Russian military transport aircraft, an important event in Syria, we know that there is a large Armenian community in Syria, and not only her, but the entire Syrian people. It is important that Syria managed to be maintained as a sovereign and independent state, "the ambassador said. In conclusion, he regretted the fact that it was not possible to resolve the crisis in Ukraine.
