Ex-speaker of parliament: Republican party reigns enviable unanimity  over candidacy of future prime minister - they will be Serzh Sargsyan

The Republican Party decided on the candidacy of the future prime minister - they should be a person who played a key role in the history of the creation of the third Armenian republic, took part in the liberation war for Nagorno-Karabakh. The member of the RPA Executive Body, ex-speaker of the parliament, MP Galust Sahakyan stated this in a conversation with journalists, stressing that this figure is Serzh Sargsyan.

According to him, there is an enviable consensus in this issue in the  Republican Party of Armenia.  Speaking about the possibility of  continuing the post of Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan and after  April 2018, when the presidential powers of Serzh Sargsyan will  expire and the new government will be determined, Sahakyan assured  that Karen Karapetyan has no political support. "I do not think that  the question of Karapetian's premiership is on the political agenda  after April 2018. Serzh Sargsyan will be the future prime minister,  we should make sure that Sargsyan wants it." It cannot be that Serzh  Sargsyan did not want to head the government after the expiration of  presidential powers," Sahakyan assured.

Meanwhile, we remind that before the constitutional referendum, which  assumes the transition of Armenia to the parliamentary form of  government, Serzh Sargsyan assured that if he passes the draft of the  Basic Law's reform, he will not qualify for the post of prime  minister of the country. Later, he said that after the expiration of  the presidential term, he would take any position in the security  sphere.

Karapetyan himself, answering the question about the possibility of  his tenure as prime minister after April 2018, did not hide his  desire to continue to head the Cabinet. "I want to serve the  Motherland," the prime minister explained his desire.

From April 2018, when Serzh Sargsyan's presidential powers expire,  Armenia completely passes over to the parliamentary form of  government.
