ArmInfo.Artsakh values Iran's policy on the Karabakh conflict, which is balanced and neutral. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Artsakh Masis Mailyan stated this in an interview with the Iranian newspaper Sharg.
He added that in Artsakh they have a positive attitude towards Iran. "It is noteworthy that Iran acted as an intermediary in the settlement of this conflict in 1992, which indicates the interest of the Islamic Republic of Iran in ensuring regional peace, as evidenced by the fact that today official Tehran reiterates its readiness to act as an intermediary in the settlement of the Artsakh- Azerbaijani conflict, it should be noted that Iran is the only country in the region that has common borders with all three conflicting parties - Armenia, Artsakh and Azerbaijan, "Mailyan said.
According to the Artsakh Foreign Minister, the border with Armenia is open and it provides the only connection of Artsakh with the outside world. "The border with Azerbaijan can be described as frontline. As for Iran, despite the good-neighborly relations between the two peoples, the border between Iran and Artsakh remains closed, which is unnatural." We are interested in having functioning borders and good-neighborly relations with all our neighbors, and I am convinced that maintaining the common border with Artsakh also comes from the interests of Iran, I believe that this is in tune with the interests of other regional actors," concluded Mailyan.
