British expert: Everyone is obliged to contribute to the peaceful  settlement of the Karabakh conflict

"The conflict must be resolved peacefully, and it became clear from  the April events in 2016 that conflicts have very serious  consequences: people must understand one thing: the war that may  occur in 2017 will not be the same as it was in 1989." The weapons of  both sides are of great destructive power. The peaceful solution  corresponds first and foremost to the needs of people directly  affected by the conflict. This position, refugees and internally  displaced persons should return to their homes. We should try to make  this happen. proposals regarding the settlement of the conflict. Our  role, the role of a civil society is a contribution to the creation  of conditions for the successful conduct of negotiations," the expert  said, APA reports.

According to Sammut, measures to restore confidence are part of the  peaceful settlement of the Karabakh conflict and they must be adopted  between states or groups that have problems with each other. "These  measures were also taken during the Cold War between the US, NATO and  the Soviet Union to clarify relations, which does not mean that we  are not aware of what is happening in Nagorno-Karabakh and the daily  losses on the contact line, which is why we are talking about  confidence measures. This issue is being discussed with the aim of  creating the conditions for conducting negotiations at the level of  presidents and ministers, each of them can contribute in his own way  to the settlement of this conflict," concluded Sammut.
