Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan in New Delhi during a meeting with Indian President Ram Nath Covind expressed confidence that this meeting will give a new impetus to the strengthening of the friendship of the Armenian and Indian peoples and the further development of relations between the two countries.
According to the press service of Armenian leader, Sargsyan considered the exhibition and conference "World Food India 2017" to be quite impressive, and the official delegation of Armenia, which he led, also participated in the opening ceremony.
The Armenian President expressed satisfaction with the fruitful talks held with Prime Minister Modi and Vice-President Naidu, where the issues of strengthening and deepening the Armenian-Indian friendly relations at the inter-parliamentary and intergovernmental levels were discussed in detail.
Speaking about the centuries-old Armenian-Indian friendship, Sargsyan noted that there are many mentions of the relations between the two peoples in the writings of historians: according to numerous sources, Armenian and Indian traders established strong ties in the first millennium of our era. The Armenian president considered it not accidental that since the 16th century, numerous Armenian communities have formed in a number of large cities of India, which had an active role in the public and political, economic and cultural life of the country.
Sargsyan expressed gratitude to the President of India and the Indian people for the caring attitude to the Armenian cultural heritage. Noting that he plans to visit one of the attractions of India, located in the city of Agra Taj Mahal, the Armenian President noted with pleasure that Armenian builders also participated in the construction of this delightful mausoleum monument.
The Armenian leader noted with satisfaction that over the past 25 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Armenia and India, it has been possible to turn the friendly relations that have deep historical roots into warm and partner interstate relations.
In turn, the Indian leader expressed the hope that regular high-level meetings will help to fully disclose the great potential of cooperation between the two countries and to outline ways of expanding bilateral relations.
The President of India congratulated the Armenian counterpart on the reforms implemented in Armenia and the transition to a new system of public administration, as well as the victory of the President of the Republic of the Party in the parliamentary elections.
At the meeting, besides the issues of the Armenian-Indian agenda of bilateral and multilateral cooperation, regional problems and challenges were also touched upon, including the settlement of the Nagorno- Karabakh conflict.
Covind confirmed his country's position on the need to resolve conflicts peacefully and through dialogue. He stressed that India supports the mediation efforts of the co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group.
