ArmInfo. First Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and Development of Armenia Vache Terteryan received Director General of the Directorate General for Democracy of the Council of Europe (CE) Snezana Samardzic-Markovic on November 2.
According to the press service of the Ministry, Terteryan presented a number of programs to the guest, noting that the action plan for democracy between Armenia and the Council of Europe for 2015-2018 are carried out in accordance with the schedule.
According to Terteryan, 5017 was very effective from the point of view of local government reform. Touching upon the administrative-territorial reform, Terteryan presented the processes implemented in the enlarged communities, simultaneously giving information about the elections to local self-government bodies, which will be held on November 5. He also noted that on November 10, at the invitation of Minister David Lokyan, Chairman of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe Gudrun Mosler-Turnstrom will arrive in Armenia to participate in the conference dedicated to the implementation of the MOC system.
In her turn, Snezana Samardzic-Markovic stressed the importance of cooperation between Armenia and the Council of Europe. She stressed the effective implementation of administrative and territorial reforms in Armenia, saying that she was pleased with the introduction of democratic principles at the level of local authorities. The European politician expressed hope that Armenia-CE co-operation in the sphere of territorial development will be continued.
The parties discussed the continuation of the CE program for 2015-2018, the draft law on local referendum, civil participation in decision-making at the local level.
