Rahmon: Karabakh conflict must be settled exclusively through peaceful negotiations

ArmInfo. Topical issues of the  Armenian-Tajik agenda were discussed in Dushanbe by Tajik President  Emomali Rahmon and Speaker of the Armenian Parliament Ara Babloyan.

As the press service of the Armenian Parliament reports, during the  meeting the parties turned to the current state and prospects for the  development of bilateral cooperation, outlined the vectors of  interaction in various spheres.

The sides noted with satisfaction that the Armenian-Tajik relations  are based on strong traditions of friendship, respect and mutual  sympathy of the peoples of Armenia and Tajikistan and expressed  confidence that the official visit of President Emomali Rahmon to  Armenia in June this year gave new impetus to bilateral relations.  The sides expressed hope that the visit of the Chairman of the  Parliament of the Republic of Armenia will also be a new impetus for  strengthening and deepening the interparliamentary relations between  Armenia and Tajikistan - for the benefit of the two friendly  countries and peoples. In this vein, the sides stressed the  importance of the productive interaction of friendship groups.

Speaker Babloyan noted that the necessary juridical base was  established between Armenia and Tajikistan, including all spheres of  cooperation. According to the Speaker of the Parliament, there is a  necessary potential for further development of multifaceted  cooperation.

The meeting exchanged views on strengthening ties in the economy,  science, education, as well as in the cultural and humanitarian  spheres. The interlocutors spoke about bilateral cooperation at  international venues, joint efforts to confront regional and  international challenges.

The meeting also touched upon the issues of conflict resolution.  President of Tajikistan Rahmon stressed the importance of solving the  Nagorno-Karabakh conflict through peaceful negotiations.

The Chairman of the National Assembly, after a meeting with the  President of Tajikistan, issued a statement for the media. Ara  Babloyan, noting that the delegation headed by him is on an official  visit to the Republic of Tajikistan on the initiative of the  country's President Rahmon, stressed the peculiarity of the visit of  the parliamentary delegation to the anniversary year of the 25th  anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the  two countries. "The Armenian-Tajik relations are based on a solid  historical and friendly foundation, since the first days of the  restoration of independence, Armenia attaches great importance to the  development and expansion of cooperation with friendly Tajikistan,  establishing effective ties between the two countries that will  continue to deepen and strengthen." Tajik President Emomali's  official visit Rahmon to Armenia in June this year gave a new impetus  to the whole spectrum of bilateral relations.

The implementation of the agreements reached will contribute to an  even greater revival of the political dialogue, expansion of mutually  beneficial cooperation in trade and economic, scientific, technical,  cultural, humanitarian and other spheres. We appreciate the attitude  of the Tajik authorities towards the Armenian community, which is an  important link between our two countries and peoples. I hope that our  official visit will also promote the further activation of  cooperation between the legislative branches of power. We attach  special importance to the development of cooperation between the  legislative bodies and the parliamentarians of Armenia and  Tajikistan, based on the provisions of the treaty of friendship and  cooperation between the two countries. All our efforts will be aimed  at establishing and preserving peace, on the welfare of our peoples,"  Babloyan said.

On the same day, the delegation headed by the speaker of the  parliament also met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the  Republic of Tajikistan Sirojiddin Aslov. During the meeting, the  development of trade and economic relations was touched upon - a  significant role was assigned to the Armenian-Tajik intergovernmental  commission on economic cooperation and the Armenian-Tajik business  forum.
