ArmInfo. Chairman of the Standing Committee on Foreign Relations of the National Assembly of Armenia Armen Ashotyan on October 30, speaking at a meeting of the Political Affairs Committee of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of EuroNest in Kiev, touched upon the issues of Armenia-EU cooperation, as well as the current stage of the process of peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh issue. According to the press service of the Armenian Parliament, Ashotyan stressed the importance of signing the Agreement on a comprehensive and expanded partnership of the EU-Armenia, which will be signed in November at the Eastern Partnership summit in Brussels. In this context, Ashotyan noted that the signed agreement provides for a qualitative increase in the level of relations between Armenia and the EU, which, in turn, will create an opportunity for more active cooperation. Armen Ashotyan also noted that the political part of the agreement is almost the same as that of the countries that signed the association, and in this respect Armenia expects political support from the EU to improve the efficiency of the judicial system, improve the institutions of democracy and protect human rights.
In his speech, Ashotyan also touched upon the current stage of the Karabakh settlement and noted that the meetings are currently being held with the aim of resuming the talks. In this connection, Armen Ashotyan noted that peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is possible only within the framework of the format of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs. The Chairman of the Standing Committee on External Relations also noted that the position of the European Parliament on this issue is that all conflicts existing in the Eastern Partnership countries require differentiated approaches.
In connection with the future of the Eastern Partnership Armen Ashotyan highlighted the importance of new approaches and new solutions for more effective cooperation of the program countries.
