Ara Babloyan, Chairman of the National Assembly of Armenia, received on 24 October Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Brazil to the Republic of Edson Marinho Duarte Monteiro, who visited the Parliament in connection with the completion of the diplomatic mission. The ambassador presented Babloyan with the work he had done, steps to deepen the ties between Brazil and Armenia.
Edson Marinho Duarte Monteiro stressed the importance of cooperation between the executive bodies, especially the activity of friendship groups in strengthening the relations between the two countries.
Monteiro, wishing peace to the Armenian people, noted that in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Brazil supports the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs, reaffirming their commitment to the peaceful resolution of the issue. According to the ambassador, disputes between neighbors should be resolved peacefully.
The Chairman of the Parliament highly appreciated the Ambassador's contribution to the development of the Armenian-Brazilian relations. Noting that this year marks the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Armenia and Brazil, Babloyan noted the revival of ties especially in recent years. The head of the Armenian parliament thanked for the recognition of the Armenian Genocide by the Brazilian Senate, noting that the Brazilian partners in various international structures have always joined the initiatives to recognize and condemn the crimes of the 20th century.
Ara Babloyan also referred to the reforms being carried out in Armenia, the process of transition to the parliamentary system of government, in this vein, stressing the importance of issues relating to the protection of human rights and the welfare of the people. The Chairman of the National Assembly wished the Ambassador successes, expressing confidence that, leaving Armenia, he will remain a loyal friend of our country.
