ArmInfo. In the first round of the elections of the head of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, the Armenian delegation supported the candidacy of  Cyprus representative Stella Kyriakides.

The Armenian delegation justified its position by the fact that the  name of the representative of Cyprus is not involved in any scandals  or deals, during the PACE's work, it has established itself as a  principled, objective and honest politician.

In general, two candidates were nominated for the post of PACE head,  the second is Lithuanian representative Emanuelis Zingeris. According  to the PACE regulations, the head of the organization should be  elected by an absolute majority of the deputies' votes (152 people),  if the required number of votes is not collected, a second round of  voting is appointed. On it, the candidate must also obtain an  absolute majority of votes. If, in this case too, the votes are not  enough, a third round is appointed, in order to pass in which it is  enough to gain a comparative majority of votes.

To note, already former head of PACE Pedro Agramunt recently  resigned, thus preventing the procedure of his impeachment, which had  already been planned. The reason for the resignation of Agramunt was  the fact that his name was exaggerated in a corruption scandal  involving Azerbaijan. In addition, European parliamentarians did not  like the fact that during his tenure as PACE head, together with the  Russian delegation, he visited Syria and met with President Assad.  Then he was accused of aiding Russian interests.
