Ashot Hovakimyan in Un, voiced the problems of the Armenian refugees  from Azerbaijan

ArmInfo. Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia Ashot Hovakimyan participated in the work of the 68th session of the Executive Committee of the United Nations High  Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), held in Geneva from 2 to 6 October.

According to the press service of the Armenian Foreign Ministry,  Hovakimyan reiterated Armenia's support for the New York statement on  refugee issues and migration flows, touched upon the global  challenges related to refugees, stressing the readiness of the RA to  continue effective cooperation with the office of the High  Commissioner on the provision of necessary assistance to the forced  immigrants, as well as refugees and asylum seekers.

The deputy minister touched upon the problems of Armenian refugees  from Azerbaijan who were forced to leave their homes as a result of  the policy of ethnic cleansing carried out by the AR. Hovakimyan also  condemned last year's April aggression of Azerbaijan against  Nagorno-Karabakh, which was accompanied by a flagrant violation of  international humanitarian law.  He also touched upon the problems of  Syrian refugees, noting that Armenia granted asylum to some 22,000  refugees. Regarding the adoption and integration of refugees, the  Deputy Minister highly appreciated the close cooperation of the  office of the High Commissioner with the Armenian authorities. He  also noted that in addition to the efforts of the Armenian  authorities, the assistance of the international community and donor  organizations is necessary.

Hovakimyan also held talks with the Executive Secretary of the United  Nations Economic Commission for Europe Olga Algaerova and UN Deputy  High Commissioner for Action George William Okot-Obbo.
