Ashkhabad completed the V Asian Games Ashgabat 2017: Turkmenistan topped the medal rating

ArmInfo. Turkmenistan topped the medal rating at the V Asian indoor  games and the martial arts "Ashgabat 2017", which took place in  Ashgabat from September 17-27.

Turkmen athletes won 245 medals, including 89 gold, 70 silver and 86  bronze medals. Turkmenistan follows China with 97 medals, Iran with  118 medals in the third position, Kazakhstan (96), Uzbekistan (131),  Thailand (70), Republic of Korea (41) Kyrgyzstan (70), Vietnam (40 )  and Hong Kong (35).  As part of the Asiada-2017 program, there were  competitions in 21 single sports - National Turkmen wrestling,  equestrian sport, basketball, belt wrestling, chess, futsal, tennis,  Muay Thai (Thai boxing), sambo, kurash, jiu-jits, bowling, cycling on  the track, swimming in the 50-meter pool, light and heavy athletics,  basketball, taekwondo (WTF), sports dances, kickboxing, wrestling  (Greco-Roman and freestyle), billiards.

On September 27, the official closing ceremony of the games was held  in the Olympic town, at the state-of- the-art Ashkhabad Olympic  stadium, designed for 45,000 seats. The closing ceremony started with  the greeting of the athletes, after which the president of the  Olympic Council of Asia Sheikh Ahmad Al Fahad Al Sabah addressed a  welcoming speech to the audience, in which he stressed that the  success of the Games would not have been possible without the vision  and daily personal participation of Turkmen President Gurbanguly  Berdimuhamedov. "It was a wonderful trip for us. Thank you for the  invitation to come to your country and the capital - Ashgabat.  Congratulations on the best in the history of the V Asian indoor  games and martial arts. Games were crowned with success. We witnessed  special Games in a special city, which we will leave with special  memories. This is the end of the Games, but not the end of our  friendship and cooperation. See you soon, Ashgabat! We love you,  "said Shaykh Ahmad.

Sheikh Ahmad also thanked 8,000 volunteers who stand out for their  uniform, for their support and warm welcome, smiles and hospitality,  which became the face of the Games, the city and Turkmenistan as a  whole.

After the President of Turkmenistan officially declared the Games  closed, the fire of the games was extinguished.

Then a little idea about the culture of the people of Turkmenistan  was shown, followed by a grand concert.  Guests and residents of the  capital were able to enjoy performances of variety singers from  Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Lebanon and Turkey, as well as British  artist John Newman, known for his hit "Love Me Again". The events  were completed with a grandiose salute.

Asian Games -2017 were held in the Olympic town, an area of 157  hectares and includes more than 30 unique objects. For comfortmoving  through the huge territory of the complex, there was a monorail road  connecting the sports town, designed for 12 thousand inhabitants,  with its other objects. For the first time, the countries of Oceania  took part in these games.  The first similar Games took place in 2005  in Bangkok (Thailand), the second - in 2007 in Macau, the third - in  2009 in Vietnam. Since the IV Asian Games in closed rooms, they began  to be held every four years and with the addition of a martial arts  competition program. The fourth Asiad was held in 2013 in the Korean  city of Incheon. The decision to hold the V Asian Games in indoor and  martial arts in Ashgabat in 2017 was taken in 2010 in the capital of  Kuwait, where the headquarters of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA),  which unites 45 countries.
