ArmInfo.The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group on the results of the meeting with the Armenian and Azeri FMs held a joint statement yesterday. The press service of the OSCE informed ArmInfo about this.
"The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group (Igor Popov-Russia, Stefan Visconti-France and Andrew Scheffer-USA) held separate and then joint meetings with the Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan Edward Nalbandian and Elmar on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York Mamedyarov. The meetings were also attended by Personal Representative of the OSCE Chairman-in-Office Andrzej Kasprzyk.
The main goal of the past consultations is to discuss the current situation in the Karabakh conflict zone, study ways to intensify the negotiation process and prepare for the upcoming summit at the level of the presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan, "the statement said. At the same time, it is stressed that the co-chairs expect that the upcoming summit will help build confidence and political will between the parties in finding compromise solutions on key issues in the settlement of the conflict. It is noted that the foreign ministers of the two countries have expressed their readiness to cooperate with the co-chairs in the preparation of a successful summit at the highest level in the near future.
At the same time, it is stressed that the co-chairs also met with OSCE Secretary General Thomas Greminger and UN Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs Jeffrey Feltman to discuss the situation on the ground, as well as recent developments in the peace process, and inform them of the preparations for the summit. The statement also notes that the co-chairs intend to visit the region in early October.
