ArmInfo. On August 31, Armenian Government approved two new draft laws - "On Defense" and "On the passing of military service and the status of a serviceman". "The draft laws should be a reflection of Armenia's defense policy," Armenian Defense Minister Vigen Sargsyan stated, presenting the document.
According to the head of defense department, bills are called to solve 3 main tasks. First of all, they are aimed at providing legal mechanisms in accordance with the new Constitution of Armenia. In addition, there is a need for codification and consolidation of defense laws adopted at different times. As a result of this work, 7 laws in force are reflected in two draft laws. The third task that is being solved by the Armenian Defense Ministry, providing a legal basis, for implementing a new defense policy, also for the implementation of the programs "I have an Honor", "It's me".
As Vigen Sargsyan noted, the definitions, significant for the defense policy of Armenia, in military and peace time, as well as the order of organization of defense and military conscription, the authority of the participants in the process, the rights and duties of citizens and private organizations were clarified. The second draft law regulates the relations connected with the passage of military service and the status of a serviceman, organization and passage of military service, and includes current laws "On Military Service," "On Military Service," and "On Social Security for Servicemen and their Families."
Bills, as the minister indicated, provide grounds for the release or postponement of military service. A number of procedures have been revised in the organization of the conscription, so, the requirement for service at a distance of 150 km from the house was eliminated. The following innovation is envisaged for conscripts of special categories (for example, who do not have parents), which earlier assumed the service in a radius of 150 km. It will be replaced by another privilege - this category of citizens will henceforth not be compulsory military duty, only on their own. In addition, additional leave is provided for them (2) during the service.
Innovations also refer to the conscripts from the same family. According to the current order, only during one call can siblings serve in the same military unit. From now on, regardless of the period of conscription, they have the right to choose the same military unit.
Military education also did not remain without attention of the sphere officials. For today, a student who studies at a military educational institution, under a contract with an institution of higher education, undertakes to serve in the system for at least 20 years. The new order provides for a mandatory period of service for 10 years.
