ArmInfo.On August 26, in the run-up to the municipal elections in the Moscow Drama Theater under the leadership of People's Artist of the USSR Armen Dzhigarkhanyan, a meeting of the leadership of the Armenian community of Moscow with its members was held.
The meeting was organized by the Moscow City Department of the Union of Armenians of Russia under the leadership of Chairman Shahan Petrosyan who came forward with an initiative to support compatriots running for municipal deputies whose elections will be held in all districts of Moscow on September 10.
The event united on the platform of the theater prominent political and public figures of Armenian origin, artists, science and culture, famous artists and athletes. The welcoming speech was delivered by the President of the Union of Armenians of Russia, UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador Ara Abrahamyan. He stressed the importance of such events, urging the Armenian community to actively participate in municipal elections. The conferees were also greeted by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Armenia to the Russian Federation Vardan Toghanyan. He noted that the Union of Armenians of Russia for many years has been solving issues of global importance and making a significant contribution to the strengthening of Russian-Armenian friendship.
An Armenian political and military figure, Lieutenant-General Norat Grigorievich Ter-Grigoryants, famous Armenian sculptor, People's Artist of Russia Frid Sogoyan and other prominent Armenians and honorary members of the Union of Armenians of Russia also spoke in support of compatriots running for municipal deputies.
The guests of the event were greeted with their irresistible humor by Russian artist of the stage and cinema Karen Avanesyan. In the foyer of the theater guests were welcomed by the music chamber orchestra <CantusFirmus> under the direction of Alexander Khurgin. Young and talented musicians and performers of Armenian origin performed at the theater.
Elections of deputies of the Council of Deputies of municipalities (districts) will be held on September 10, 2017 in all districts of Moscow. According to the information and analytical portal ELECTIONS.MOSCOW, 7513 candidates will take part in the elections, of which about 100 candidates are of Armenian origin. The Council of Deputies of municipalities is a representative body of local self- government. Its members are elected in the popular vote for single-mandate and (or) multi-mandate electoral districts for a period of five years.
