ArmInfo.In my opinion, Germany will continue to oppose the application of new US sanctions against Russia. The scientific director of the German-Russian forum, political scientist Alexander Rahr, expressed opinion.

July 31, the Minister of Economy of Germany, Brigitte Tsipris,  characterized the new US bill to tighten sanctions against the  Russian Federation as violating international law. "Sanctions affect  European enterprises, and the US cannot penalize German companies for  economic activities in another country," the minister said.

Earlier, the Senate of the US Congress voted in support of the bill  to expand sanctions against Russia, Iran and North Korea. The  document is expected to be signed by President Donald Trump.

"Germany is in no way interested in new sanctions, as they indirectly  affect the interests of our companies operating in Russia, but the  implementation of sanctions will make the activity of German  companies practically impossible in Russia." This is both a  cooperation with Russian state corporations and Infrastructure,  communication, construction projects," he said.

At the same time, Rahr noted with regret that Germany is not yet the  whole of the European Union and a number of its members will  unequivocally support the anti-Russian sanctions package of  Washington based on a number of reasons and circumstances. At the  same time, the political scientist believes that Berlin's position  will be unequivocally supported in Paris. According to his estimates,  the approval of sanctions by President Donald Trump is virtually  beyond doubt. And, nevertheless, Berlin, after the relevant  statements today, is still waiting.

"We hope that the law will at least be finalized in a state that does  not contradict the interests of Western companies, if not abolished  altogether, otherwise the sanctions package will lead to serious  complications, however, exclusively in German-American relations, as  to hope that Germany will be able to consolidate around itself all EU  countries is senseless", said Rahr.
