ArmInfo. Today, July 5, Armenia marks the Constitution Day. On this day in 1995, the draft Basic Law was submitted to a nationwide referendum and approved by the people of Armenia. The 1995 Constitution was the first Basic Law of Independent Armenia. Further the document was twice subjected to changes - in 2005 and in 2015.
If in the first case there was a transition from presidential to semi-presidential government, then in the second - to the parliamentary republic.
The full process of transformation of the country's political system, according to the current legislation, will be completed in 2018, when the powers of the second presidential term of the incumbent President Serzh Sargsyan expire. According to the reformed Constitution, since 2018 all power in Armenia will be concentrated in the hands of the legislative and executive bodies. In addition, on July 5, Armenia also celebrates the Day of State Symbols - a flag, a coat of arms and a hymn.
