ArmInfo. The issues of sustainable development of Armenian- Czech parliamentary relations and activation of mutual visits of parliamentary delegations were discussed on June 28 by the vice speaker of the Armenian parliament, the head of the Armenia-Czech friendship group Eduard Sharmazanov and his Czech counterpart Milush Gorska.
The delegation expressed satisfaction with the high level of inter-parliamentary relations, stressed the role of parliamentary friendship groups in the development of bilateral relations, noted the need for mutually beneficial and coordinated work of the delegations of the two countries in international structures. Sharmazanov introduced the process of harmonization of the legislation after the constitutional changes in Armenia, noting that Armenia is steadily moving along the path of institutional reforms. He stressed that with the transition to the parliamentary system of governance, the role of the National Assembly is increasing, and its powers are expanding.
Referring to regional processes, Sharmazanov stressed that Armenia stands for an exceptionally peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group, on the basis of three well-known principles.
"The civilized division of the Czech Republic and Slovakia and the proclamation of two independent states in early 1990s could also become a good precedent for the subjects of the former USSR, but instead of rejecting the right of the people of Artsakh to self-determination, Azerbaijan imposed a war on free people of Artsakh," Sharmazanov said.
At the same time, he stressed that sooner or later Azerbaijan will have to recognize the independence of Artsakh, because, in his opinion, there is no alternative to the independence of Artsakh.
