ArmInfo.The Office of the Ombudsman of Armenia responded to reports of torture in respect to arrested members of Sasna Tsrer group, who captured the building of the regiment of the patrol and guard service of the RA Police in the Erebuni district of the capital in July 2016.
"The Office of the Ombudsman reported on the use of violence against prisoners Araik Khandoyan, Areg Kyureghyan, Mkhitar Avetisyan, Smbat Barseghyan and Gagik Yeghiazaryan. Public reports about this were also heard from the lawyers of the accused. The Rapid Response Team of the Ombudsman's Office has been out of the night and is still visiting the penitentiary facilities where the above-mentioned persons are located, "the press service of the Ombudsman's office said in a statement to ArmInfo.
To recall, on July 17, 2016 the group "Sasna Tsrer" seized the building of the PPS Regiment of the Police of Armenia in the capital district of Erebuni. Group demanded the resignation of Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan and the liberation participant of the Karabakh war Zhirayr Sefelyan, who was arrested in the spring of the same year for illegal possession of weapons. The group surrendered and was arrested on July 31.
In early June this year, the trial of the accused began, which according to human rights activists, is held with many violations.
