ArmInfo.European People Party faction today during the Parliamentary assembly of the Council of Europe took decision on removing PACE head Pedro Agramund from the rows of the faction.
According to PACE Armenian delegation head Arpine Hovhannisyan from Strasburg, 30 parliamentarians voted for and 3 abstained, nobody voted against. According to her, only representatives of Azerbaijani lobbies supported Agramund. Yesterday, PACE adopted amendments to the charter of the structure, allowing to express distrust to the head of the Assembly, that the previous charter did not provide for.
To note, the head of PACE Pedro Agramund is involved in corruption scandal receiving bribes from Azerbaijani lobbies. During the April session of PACE, the issue of the resignation of Agramund was raised, but the real reason for this was not the corruption scandal, but the fact that he was a member of the Russian delegation to Syria, then the European parliamentarians accused him of supporting Putin and Assad regime. Agramund repented, but this did not soften the position of his colleagues, who demanded his resignation. Nevertheless, Agramund did not resign at that time, as the PACE regulations did not envisage such a procedure. As a result of the latest amendments, PACE will be able to send its chairman to resignation.
