ArmInfo. All the NATO allies are concerned with armament shipments volumes growth in South Caucasus region. This was stated by James Appathurai, the special representative of NATO Secretary General at Caucasus and Asia, during a press conference in Yerevan held on June 12, answering the question about Russian armaments shipments to Azerbaijan. According to him, not only the armaments shipments increase, but the political tension between the sides of the conflict, too.
" As it is well known, two NATO members (USA and France- editor's remark) are also the co-chairs of OSCE Minsk Group. I could state only that the statements of Minsk Group members prove they are intended to reach peace, and promote the peaceful process. In its turn, NATO wishes to put an end to this conflict as well," he mentioned.
At the same time he mentioned that Northern Atlantic Alliance attentively monitors the situation in the region, the level of security, and information flows come also from Georgian office of NATO. " It is obvious that whole the NATO and its members separately are concerned with the situation in Karabakh more than ever before, because the number of armed collisions increased, military rhetoric gets hotter, and we are concerned with that. Our position have not changed, we do not deal with this problem, but we support the Minsk Group in all the peaceful initiatives undertaken either by sides of the conflict and by co- chairs," Appathurai summarized.
