ArmInfo.Armenian National Assembly Head Ara Babloyan met the delegation led by European Parliament Committee on Foreign Affairs David McAlister.
According to Armenian Parliament press service, Babloyan noted that European Union continues to remain one of the most important partners of Armenia. At the same time, the speaker of Armenian Parliament stressed the important role of parliamentary diplomacy in the development of Armenian-EU relations.
Referring to new framework agreement of Armenia-EU scheduled to be signed in foreseeable future, Babloyan said that Armenia, moving in the direction of democracy development, expects EU support in different areas.
In the context of democracy development and the protection of fundamental human rights, the head of the National Assembly talked about the "black list" of Azerbaijan, which includes persons who visited Artsakh. At the same time, Babloyan reaffirmed Armenia's position on an exclusively peaceful settlement of the Karabakh conflict: "During the Soviet period, I as a doctor cured and operated hundreds of Azerbaijani children and it is regrettable that today we are losing our young boys. The problem must be settled through peaceful negotiations. "
In his turn, McAlister wished to hear both from political majority and from opposition opinions about processes, happening in Armenia.
The European Parliament delegation included representatives of Germany, Hungary, Croatia, Latvia, Bulgaria, Slovenia, Finland and Italy. The visit is of a regional nature. The delegation has already visited Azerbaijan and Georgia.
