ArmInfo. The legal rights left to Baku on Karabakh are a serious threat of unleashing a new war by Azerbaijan and engaging Artsakh and Armenia in this war. Such an opinion was expressed by Manvel Sargsyan at the seminar "April war a year later: disputes over the Artsakh status quo" held at the Armenian Center for Strategic and National Studies.
"The biggest menace is that Azerbaijan will have legal rights in this war, as it was in April 2016. The complexity of the situation is reinforced by the fact that as long as the rights to Karabakh remain for Azerbaijan, the Karabakh problem is in fact not solved I can say that in the past 25 years, on the very possibility of realizing any policy, this taboo has been and continues to be taboo," he said.
At the same time, Sargsyan stressed that the need to determine the status of Nagorno-Karabakh is recognized by all and Turkey including. In his opinion, this is practically the only, however, very significant achievement of the Armenian side of the talks on Karabakh.
The analyst stressed that the understanding of having legal rights to Karabakh came to Baku in 1993 with the coming to power of Heydar Aliyev. And since then during all the next years Azerbaijan is not refusing from the rights to Karabakh, understanding the importance of them in the protection of their position.
