ArmInfo. The number of suicides of penitentiary departments concerns the Ombudsman of Armenia Arman Tatoyan. He stated this on April 13, during a press conference in Yerevan.
According to him, in 2016, in PDs, 7 suicides were registered, what, according to him, is a high indicator. He noted that such an indicator was also registered in 2011. "It is necessary to study every single case, to analyze the situation and find out the reasons, he stressed, adding that he is not satisfied with the performance of the Prosecutor Office which is not consistent in this question".
Tatoyan also sees problems in the questions of providing health care to the convicts, according to him, there is a lack of doctors and nurses because of what the convicts take care of each other. He noted that in the given direction reforms are already made, however, the dynamics is not satisfactory.
To note, on March 16, Parliamentary Assembly of Council of Europe (PACE), published a report "PD of Armenia in 2015", in which Armenia is one of the countries with growth of arrests and with high mortality among the convicts. According to the report, Armenia, with its indicator of number of arrests is among Turkey (191%), Albania (90%), San Marino (79%), Macedonia (61%). Among the states of the survey, Armenia has the highest indicator of mortality in penitentiary departments.
