National Security Service of Armenia confirms information on Samvel Babayan`s arrest on case of smuggling of MANPADS "Igla"

ArmInfo. The National Security Service of Armenia confirmed the information about the arrest of ex-Defense Minister of Artsakh Samvel Babayan in the case of the smuggling of Igla missile from Georgia to Armenia.

The press service of the National Security Service stated that within the framework of this case, 3 people were arrested and Babayan was among them. "As a result of operational-search activities, reliable data was obtained that persons engaged in the delivery and acquisition of components of the anti-aircraft missile system acted at the behest and order of Babayan", the report reads.

Besides, the NSS also noted that according to the expert's conclusion, the missile <9M39>, being part of the SAM, is suitable for further use and is an ammunition. "At the moment, the motives for acquiring the SAM, possible targets, and financial sources are being clarified". The preliminary investigation continues", the press service noted.
