ArmInfo. The European Court of Human Rights has accepted 23 lawsuits against Azerbaijan for hearing. The lawsuits concern the crimes committed by the Azerbaijani armed forces during the April war, Armenia's Representative to the ECHR Gevorg Kostanyan told reporters on March 16.
He noted that over 700 claims regarding the Azeri crimes during the April war have been filed to the ECHR. A large group of lawyers are working at the lawsuits and the Armenian Government is involved as the third party. Kostanyan pointed out that Baku has stated about 500 claims against Armenia. "However, the ECHR has accepted 5 claims and the Armenian side has already been notified about it," Kostanyan said.
To note, earlier human rights activists filed claims to the Human Court of Human Rights (ECHR) against Azerbaijan regarding the latter's violation of the rights of the Nagorno-Karabakh civilians and servicemen during the Azeri aggression in April 2016.
On behalf of the families of 22 servicemen of the NKR Defense Army, the group filed claims about mutilation of the victims' bodies, inhuman treatment, ethnic discrimination, etc. The Azeri side has been informed of these claims and is to respond before March 28. The group reports that on behalf of the Khalapyan family, the human rights activists apply to the ECHR to declare three Talish residents' rights as violated. The residents underwent violence and torture in their own home. The Azeri side is informed of this claim as well and it is to respond before November 27. "On behalf of 693 injured residents of Talish and Mataghis villages, Martakert, Verin and Nerkin Chartar, Martuni and Askeran towns, claims have been filed about violation of their rights to life, property, personal life, etc.", the statement said. Three more claims have been filed on behalf of 4 minors. "One more claim has been received from the Artsakh Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church," the statement says.
To note, numerous cases of violation of civilians' rights were registered in the course of Azerbaijani aggression on April 1-4. In addition, the Azerbaijani servicemen monstrously killed and cut the ears of three Armenian civilians Valera Khalapyan, Razmella Khalapyan and Marusya Khalapyan. The Azeri servicemen also decapitated 19-year-old Armenian serviceman Karam Sloyan and posted his photos on the internet. On the first day of the aggression, the Azerbaijani servicemen killed 12-year-old Vaghinak Grigoryan and wounded two more children.
