ArmInfo. The head of the EU delegation in Armenia Piotr Switalski expressed his hope that pre-electoral violence will not continue. He said this in an interview with journalists, commenting on the latest developments in Djrarat.
In his opinion, due to the use of violence in the course of electoral campaigning, the responsibility lies with the law enforcement agencies. "As we know from the example of other countries, that if violence does not follow the appropriate assessment, it can enlarge", he said.
Switalski added that EU is following the reaction of law enforcement agencies. "I hope that they will do their job at a high level, because preventing further acts of violence is their immediate responsibility, and we can only hope that there will be no more violence during this campaign, despite very strong emotions", the ambassador said.
The diplomat noted that he had not yet discussed these incidents at the political level with the authorities of the country. "We have left all to law enforcement institutions. The Special Electoral Adviser maintains daily communications with the Police and other law enforcement agencies", he said, commenting on Brussels' concerns about detailed manifestations of violence.
"Never before has the European Union paid so much attention to the agitation campaign in Armenia", he said. The diplomat believes that the successful application of new electoral technologies will lead to an improvement in the quality of electoral processes. "It's not perfect, because all bad habits go away with difficulty", he resumed.
