ArmInfo.South Caucasus Railway (SCR) CJSC CEO Sergey Valko summed up the results of activities for Feb 2017.     

As the SCR press office has told ArmInfo, Valko noted that last month  the company speeded up efforts towards resumption of Kavkaz-Poti  ferry service. Jointly with the Georgian Railway, a number of joint  decisions were taken regarding the tariffs of cargo transportation to  Armenia and from Armenia.        

Valko said that export traffic increased by 9.3% as compared to the  targeted indicator.  Local traffic dropped by 3.7% as compared to  last year's indicator. Such qualitative indices as the average weight  of the cargo train (1476 tons, up 3.5% versus last year's indicator),  the daily mileage and the locomotive productivity also grew. The  service speed reached 35.7 km/h, up 2% versus a year before, while  the operating speed reached 40.9 km/h, up 3.3%. Valko stressed the  need to improve such indicators as the working fleet of cargo trains,  nonload run, electricity consumption for hauling operations.     

As regards the schedule, he noted that in Feb 2017 as many as 970  trains ran, 954 of which met the schedule. 

Valko paid special attention to railway safety issues. He said that  in Feb 2017 the railway appraisal rose by 4 points as compared to the  previous month.  

The SCR CEO instructed speeding up efforts to increase the cargo  transportation by rail, especially with the use of Kavkaz-Poti ferry  service, which will allow launching direct cargo transportation from  Armenia  to Russia and CIS countries and back. 

SCR CJSC is the 100% subsidiary of Russian Railways OJSC and the  concessional manager of Armenian Railways under the 13 Feb 2008    agreement, which was signed for 30 years but can be extended for 10  more years.
