ArmInfo. "Together with the Russian Center of science and culture, we are working to ensure that the quota for the Armenian students to study in Russian universities annually increased", the adviser to Russian Ambassador to Armenia Oleg Shapovalov told ArmInfo during March 1st Yerevan exhibition "Education XXI century".
He noted that in 2017 187 of budget places are allocated to Armenian students. "That is the so-called absolute figure allocated places". "We intend to provide additional budget places to students who can not be selected in the competition, but performed well or have participated in the Olympic Games, held in cooperation with Russian universities. In this case, we can apply for the quota increase and in this regard we have a clear limit. It may be 20 or 30 or 50 budget places", said Shapovalov. The Diplomat said that in 2016 220 quota for free education in Russian universities have been allocated to Armenia, in 2015 - 206, in 2014 - 150.
In particular, the Advisor of the Ambassador of the Russian Federation said that under this program the student is sent not to a specific university, but for training in a certain specialty. Selected students in the competition framework are registered in the general database of the Russian Federation Ministry of Education, where Russian universities select students on their own. "We have actually a very interesting statistics. For example, according to the results of last year, 70-80% of Armenian students were selected by universities in Moscow and St. Petersburg", he said. According to him, the most serious competition for Armenian students is seen in the medical profession. "Medicine is a very sought-after destination for Armenian students", he stressed. Traditionally interesting for the students from Armenia is mathematics, physics, IT. " There is always a very high competition in economics and law, but it is most likely to be a false indicator, since we have the least quota on these areas, there are from 20 to 40 people in place", said the adviser.
