ArmInfo. The United States should cooperate with Russia in the settlement of Nagorno Karabakh problem, according to Professor Carey Cavanaugh, New York Council on Foreign Relations expert, former Ambassador/Special Negotiator responsible for conflicts in Eurasia and concurrently U.S. Co-Chair of the OSCE Minsk Group in 1999-2001, APA reports quoting TASS.
Cavanaugh said that President Trump has already announced his intention to cooperate with Russia. Joint actions in settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict could be a starting point for further efforts of the two countries in other areas.
The expert thinks it would be wrong to believe that the Minsk process has not given any results. The fact that in recent years there has been no large-scale conflict speaks for itself, he said, stressing the need to put into practice the previously agreed confidence-building and security measures in the region. In particular, it is necessary to increase the number of OSCE observers, and to establish an independent mechanism to investigate the incidents on the contact line, which would help reduce the number of ceasefire violations. Cavanaugh thinks that the settlement of the conflict is in the interest of all parties.
