ArmInfo. The Armenian Government is conducting intensive reforms, setting itself a task to reduce corruption risks, Armenian Minister of Finance Vardan Aramyan said during a meeting with US Ambassador to Armenia Richard Mills.
The press office of the Ministry reports that during the meeting the minister raised a number of problems related to the need to ensure sustainable economic growth, development of the local potential, retraining of specialists, as well as consistent improvement of the e-government systems. The minister stressed the need to combine the Government's steps and the society's strivings to gain the best result.
Ambassador Mills congratulated Vardan Aramyan on his appointment as minister of finance, and expressed hope for fruitful cooperation. He expressed the Embassy's willingness to assist the Armenian Ministry of Finance in reforming the administration system and implementation of the Government's priorities. Richard Mills noted that the US Embassy gives high priority to long-term partnership with the Armenian Ministry of Finance. The Embassy will support the Ministry's efforts towards reforming the public procurement system and removing the obstacles hindering investments and cooperation with the private sector, he added.
Vardan Aramyan, in turn, stressed the importance of enhancing the level of ties with the public, and pointed out the need to take the society's opinion about the new Tax Code into account.
The source says that the US holds an important place in the economic and political life of Armenia, because it is a major donor in providing humanitarian and technical assistance to the country. The Armenian-US trade and economic cooperation is regulated by the activity of the Armenian-US Commission, which meets once a year in Yerevan and Washington.
