ArmInfo. By attempting to restrict the activities of Yerevan Office of OSCE Baku has protested against the organization, Foreign Minister of Armenia Edward Nalbandian stated at the press conference on January 31.
"Azerbaijan found itself in isolated position and opposing 56 countries members of OSCE made a stand against extending OSCE Office mandate in Yerevan. Delegations of many other OSCE member states including Russia, the USA, EU, Canada and Switzerland supported Yerevan Office activities", the Minister noted.
According to the Minister during the OSCE Permanent Council's session Baku stated that Yerevan Office activities pose threat to Azerbaijan's security by implementing mine lifting program. At the same time Nalbandian noted that in fact it was an educational program. "OSCE mission was sent to the region to investigate the situation and a report was presented that the statement does not correspond to the facts. However, Baku continued to state that the program contradicts to its interests. As a result it was proposed to cancel implementation of the program and we agreed on that. However, all the other programs will be implemented as before", the Minister noted adding that at the background of non-constructive stand of Baku, which has closed OSCE Azerbaijani office, Armenia's constructive approach was praised at the session.
To recall, on December 31 2016 Azerbaijan's delegation has informed the organization that it does not support the decision on prolongation of the mission of OSCE Office in Yerevan.
