ArmInfo. The Russian Embassy to Armenia has summed up the results of 2016. The meeting with journalists started with a minute of silence related to tragic crash of Tu-154, which led to 92 victims.
Russian Embassy's counsellor in Armenia, Andrey Ivanov during his speech stated that this tragic accident is another one among grievous events happened this year. "We all remember the terrible events happened in April this year when a lot of innocent people were killed among both soldiers and civilians. Everybody knows that during these events cases of abuse of corpses by barbarians, savages and terrorists were registered", the Russian diplomat noted.
At the same time he noted that today it became known that the governmental forces in Aleppo have detained supporters of terrorist groups and they had passports of US, France, Great Britain and Saudi Arabia. According to him now it is quite clear why these countries have been defending the so-called Syrian oppositionist forces in the UN Security Council, they were just afraid of being revealed.
"However, there were also positive moments this year and we should not forget about them. Thus, Armenia's chairmanship in CSTO was successful; the Organization's strategy was finally approved, which the sides failed to do for many years. Besides, a center of crisis response was opened, drills of CSTO Collective Forces of Rapid Reaction were held and additional measures were taken to confront terrorism. We also remember about humanitarian aid, which Armenia has sent to Syrians", Ivanov said. He added in this context that quite optimistic achievements were registered within the Eurasian Economic Union. According to the Russian diplomat in the light of negative world trends Armenia managed to receive enough dividends from the integration union and there are prospects for more significant results.
"At the background of economic downfall we are moving forward and this is the most important thing. We have made serious progress in humanitarian field this year. We will continue to provide support to Armenia on the issue of implementing UN program on ensuring catering in schools. A number of interesting and important programs have been implemented. We hope that we will manage to continue in the same vein next year", the Russian diplomat summarized.
