ArmInfo. Analysing the assassination of Russian Ambassador in Turkey, it is very important to define the arena it happened at. I think it was geopolitical, Hrachya Arzoumanyan, the Ashkhar Strategic Research Center director, military and national security expert shared his opinion with ArmInfo.
On December 19 Russia's Ambassador to Turkey Andrei Karlov was shot dead at an art gallery in the Turkish capital on Monday. The gunman was an off-duty policeman Mevlut Mert Altintas, 22, who opened fire at an art gallery in Ankara as Andrei Karlov was making a speech. After which the gunman was shot down by Turkish policemen. Russian operative group on investigation, comprising 18 members, left for Turkey.
"In this respect there is no option to decrease the level of tragedy happened. And there is no sense also in analyzing and discussing tools like terrorism etc. In this case we faced a special operation, with a perfect "picture" as an important integral element. To me, Turkish special forces participated in preparation of this assassination," Arzumanyan mentioned.
According to estimations of the expert, if everything that happened is just a "black swan" for Russia ( a study theory on hard-to-forecast events), that means Moscow loses capability to conduct geopolitical games, and shapes the options of a lost game.
Arzumanyan mentions also that, if it is a geopolitical arena and a big game, it would be better to remind and to understand the impossibility of Russian-Turkish alliance by default. All the attempt to create such an alliance will bring down one of these two countries.
"Russia-Iran-Turkey tripartite alliance being shaped, of course causes many ideas, but it is likely being impossible as well. And this is a situation, when Russia has to think over its next step when the checkmate is already made. It is also an effective policy, if appropriate resources are available," the expert summarized.
