ArmInfo. Iran's President Hassan Rouhani's visit to Armenia is an important step for further development of bilateral relations, the joint statement by the Armenian and Iran's President reads. The sides expressed satisfaction with the high level of bilateral, centuries-old Armenian-Iranian relations and confirmed readiness to further expand bilateral cooperation.
In this context the sides emphasized the work of the Armenian-Iranian inter-governmental commission aimed at increasing trade turnover between the countries, development of infrastructures, increasing the level of cooperation in the fields of energy, transport and industry. The sides also attached importance to activation of inter-parliamentary and inter-regional cooperation. The Presidents focused on the need to use transit international routes through Armenia and Iran's territories for connecting Persian Gulf and Black Sea.
The sides also pointed at the necessity to expand cooperation in energy field, increasing amounts of Iranian gas exported to Armenia and speediest launch of the third power transmission line.
Sargsyan and Rouhani hailed Armenia's assistance in negotiations for signing agreement on setting beneficial trade relations between Iran and the Eurasian Economic Union, as well as liquidation of visa regime between Iran and Armenia. The Presidents emphasized the importance of establishing long-term and sustainable peace in the region and focused on settlement of regional conflicts and expansion of cooperation. In this context the sides pointed at the necessity to settle Karabakh conflict via peaceful means basing on international legal norms. The Presidents expressed assurance that the agreements reached on Iran's nuclear program will have positive impact on regional and international security.
Sargsyan and Rouhani considered prospective the agreements on non- proliferation of nuclear arms. They also accentuated speedy resolution of the Syrian problem and overcoming consequences of war. The sides expressed readiness to jointly fight against international terrorism. They also pointed at the need to display tolerance in political and religious aspects.
